In 2024, SGS acquired Beta Analytic, a U.S. laboratory, which was subsequently rebranded as SGS BETA Lab. It is now the world’s leading carbon-14 testing company, serving governments, academic institutions, and commercial organizations globally, and is ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited.
As more products and packaging shift from petroleum-based materials to bio-based alternatives, radiocarbon dating has emerged as a unique solution for verifying product claims and preventing “greenwashing.”
SGS BETA utilizes ASTM D6866, EN 16640, and ISO 16620-2 testing standards to provide precise bio-based carbon content testing services. Depending on the service selected by the client, the laboratory will deliver bio-based carbon content test results within 7-10 business days. SGS also offers the SGS Green Mark certification service to support the promotion of bio-based products and environmental sustainability claims.
We believe this acquisition will enable SGS to provide more innovative and targeted solutions, helping clients meet their sustainability goals and regulatory requirements across various industries.
